Productivity Hack: A shared inbox is the easiest project management tool

With Bikerumor (my cycling blog), we get a flood of new product releases every day and needed a quick, simple way to share them with all of our staff and freelance writers. After looking at various project management systems, all of which were cumbersome and usually very expensive, we simply set up a general “To Do” inbox as an IMAP account and gave everyone access.

This way, multiple editors can forward news to it, and all of the writers have first come, first served access to new story ideas. Writers simply forward one to themselves when they’re ready to start on it and delete from the shared inbox. Super simple -everyone knows how to use email- and all of the text, contact information and attachments are intact, it’s searchable and in chronological order. And the best part? It’s free!
